Mt. Washington Cog RR in its heyday of steam.  This type of night photography is known as "painting with light."  With the lens on the camera open, a high-output flash is fired to light each area of the scene one small piece at a time.   For this exposure, about 45 flashes were used to light the entire scene including inside the cars and under the wheels.  All of this while keeping an eye peeled for a big black bear that frequented the area.
